LDU Quito Edges Out Deportivo Táchira in Thrilling Encounter
San Cristóbal, May 7, 2025 – Liga Deportiva Universitaria de Quito (LDUQ) defeated Deportivo Táchira FC in a thrilling match at the Estadio Polideportivo de Pueblo Nuevo, corresponding to matchday four of the CONMEBOL Libertadores group stage. The match, officiated by Gery Vargas (Bolivia), was marked by intensity and red cards.
LDUQ dominated the scoreboard with a strong first-half performance, scoring two quick goals thanks to Leonardo Alzugaray (16′) and Alexander Arce (19′), both assisted by Bryan José Ramírez León. However, Ramírez León’s red card in the 21st minute changed the course of the game.
Despite Deportivo Táchira FC’s overwhelming possession (75%), LDUQ showed greater effectiveness in attack. Arce scored his second goal of the match in the 54th minute, extending the lead. Deportivo Táchira managed to pull back goals in the closing stages through Nelson Hernández (68′) and Brayan Castillo (90′), but the comeback fell short.
The match ended 3-2 in favor of LDUQ, despite numerous yellow and red cards shown to both teams. LDUQ demonstrated a great capacity for reaction and efficiency despite playing a man down for much of the game. Deportivo Táchira’s superior possession was countered by the Quito team’s precision and effectiveness.
