Aucas defeats Libertad in a thrilling match in Quito
Aucas defeated Libertad 2-0 in a vibrant match played at the Estadio Cooprogreso Gonzalo Pozo Ripalda in Quito on May 6th, 2025, corresponding to matchday 11 of the Liga Pro. The match, refereed by Juan Carlos Andrade Arreaga, was marked by the expulsion of a Libertad player and several goal-scoring opportunities for both teams.
Aucas opened the scoring early with a goal from A. Mina in the 1st minute. While R. Briones scored a goal that was later disallowed for offside in the 40th minute, the home team’s comfort was secured by J. Mina’s second goal in the 60th minute, assisted by B. Montenegro. Aucas had several more opportunities, including a missed penalty by B. Montenegro in the 86th minute. Libertad, on the other hand, was affected by the expulsion of W. Bardales after receiving two yellow cards in the 85th minute. Despite having a slight edge in possession (51% compared to Aucas’ 49%), Libertad could not overcome the solid home defense. Both teams registered 14 shots each, but Aucas was more effective on target (5 shots on goal against Libertad’s 4).
