FC Basel 1893 achieved a resounding 5-1 victory over Servette FC at St. Jakob-Park in Basel, in the first matchday of the 2024 Swiss Super League Championship Round. The match, officiated by Lukas Fahndrich, was dominated by the home team, who controlled possession (61%) and created significantly more scoring opportunities (14 shots, 8 on target).
Xherdan Shaqiri was the star of the show, directly involved in three of Basel’s goals. He opened the scoring in the 28th minute, before assisting Ajeti for the second (34th minute) and Traore for the fourth (76th minute). Ajeti himself scored a brace (28th and 38th minutes), playing a crucial role in the victory. Servette, despite scoring a consolation goal through K. Adams in the 55th minute, were comprehensively outplayed by Basel. The match was also notable for the sending off of Servette’s Antunes in the 48th minute after receiving two yellow cards. Basel sealed the victory with a goal from Vouilloz in the 79th minute. The final score was 5-1 to FC Basel.
