Sao Paulo and Alianza Lima Draw in Thrilling Libertadores Match
Sao Paulo drew 2-2 with Alianza Lima in a thrilling CONMEBOL Libertadores group stage match played at the Morumbi stadium in São Paulo on April 11th, 2025. The match, refereed by Alexis Herrera of Venezuela, was a back-and-forth affair.
Sao Paulo dominated possession (61%) and created more scoring chances (14 shots, 5 on target), taking an early lead with two goals from Ferreira in the 32nd and 37th minutes, assisted by Luciano and Marcos Antonio respectively. However, Alianza Lima fought back in the second half, scoring two goals of their own. Castillo’s goal in the 66th minute and Quevedo’s in the 76th minute secured a draw for the visitors.
The match saw yellow cards for Zubeldia and Marcos Antonio for Sao Paulo, and Noriega and Velasquez for Alianza Lima. Despite Sao Paulo’s superior possession and shot count, they were unable to hold onto their lead, resulting in a dramatic 2-2 draw.
