Velez Sarsfield thrashes Olimpia in Asunción
Velez Sarsfield achieved a resounding 4-0 victory over Olimpia in a match corresponding to the second matchday of the 2025 CONMEBOL Libertadores group stage, played at the Defensores del Chaco Stadium in Asunción, Paraguay. The match, refereed by Piero Maza (Chile), was dominated by the Argentinian team despite having less possession (42%).
Braian Romero opened the scoring in the 25th minute with a field goal, assisted by E. Gomez. Before halftime, Romero scored again, this time from a penalty, in the 49th minute. In the second half, Maximiliano Carrizo extended the lead in the 56th minute thanks to an assist from A. Montoro. Finally, Facundo Pizzini sealed the victory with a goal in the 90th minute, again assisted by E. Gomez.
The match was characterized by Velez Sarsfield’s offensive superiority, reflected in their 11 shots on goal, 6 of which were on target. Olimpia, with 58% possession, generated 26 shots, but only 9 found the opposing goal. Both teams received several yellow cards: three for Olimpia and two for Velez Sarsfield.
