Monterrey Edges Out Vancouver Whitecaps in Thrilling CONCACAF Champions League Match
Rayados de Monterrey secured a hard-fought 3-2 victory over the Vancouver Whitecaps FC in a thrilling Round of 16 CONCACAF Champions League match at Estadio Corona in Torreón on March 13th, 2025.
Monterrey took an early lead with a goal from Sebastián Canales in the 4th minute, assisted by Luis Reyes. Despite a yellow card to Ricardo Chávez in the 45th minute, Monterrey controlled much of the game, boasting 52% possession. They registered 19 shots, 5 on target, and earned 6 corner kicks.
Vancouver Whitecaps fought back strongly in the second half. Esequiel Ocampo scored in the 57th minute (assisted by Pedro Vite), and Brian White added another in the 78th (assisted by Andrés Cubas), bringing the score level. Vancouver’s 7 shots, 3 of which were on target, kept the pressure on Monterrey.
