Kawasaki Frontale Rout Shanghai Shenhua in AFC Champions League Round of 16
Kawasaki, Japan – Kawasaki Frontale cruised to a convincing 4-0 victory over Shanghai Shenhua at the Uvance Todoroki Stadium by Fujitsu on Tuesday, March 12, 2025, in a Round of 16 match of the AFC Champions League. The match, officiated by Omar Mohamed Al Ali of the United Arab Emirates, saw the home side dominate possession (54%) and create significantly more goal-scoring opportunities (15 shots, 8 on target).
Kawasaki Frontale took the lead in the 24th minute with a goal from Ao Tanaka Sasaki, assisted by Shogo Kawahara. Despite a disallowed goal for Koki Takai in the 35th minute due to a foul and a yellow card for Yuta Wakizaka in the 42nd minute, the Japanese team continued their dominance. Shanghai Shenhua received a yellow card for Chan Shinichi in the 57th minute.
In the second half, Kawasaki Frontale extended their lead with three more goals. Erison scored the second goal in the 65th minute, assisted by Sasaki. Tanaka Ito added a third in the 68th minute, assisted by Marcinho, and Marcinho himself sealed the victory with a goal in the 90th minute, assisted by Yuki Segawa.
Despite Shanghai Shenhua’s efforts, managing 10 shots (3 on target), Kawasaki Frontale’s defense proved impenetrable. The match ended with a final score of 4-0 in favor of the home team, who advance to the next round of the competition.
