Al-Ahli Jeddah Dominates Al-Rayyan SC in AFC Champions League Round of 16
Jeddah, March 11, 2025 – Al-Ahli Jeddah secured a commanding 2-0 victory over Al-Rayyan SC in the first leg of their AFC Champions League Round of 16 clash at the Al Inma Bank Stadium at King Abdullah Sport City. Australian referee Shaun Evans oversaw the match, which saw Al-Ahli Jeddah’s dominance solidify in the second half.
Riyad Mahrez emerged as the star performer, scoring two crucial goals in the 77th and 83rd minutes, assisted by Galeno and G. Veiga respectively. Despite Al-Rayyan SC’s efforts to maintain possession, Al-Ahli Jeddah’s superior ball control (53%) and shooting accuracy (23 shots to 12, with 8 on target compared to Al-Rayyan’s 3) proved decisive. Both teams received one yellow card each: M. Naji for Al-Rayyan SC and Alexsander for Al-Ahli Jeddah. The victory gives Al-Ahli Jeddah a significant advantage heading into the second leg.
