Universitario defeats Sport Boys in a thrilling match at Lima’s National Stadium
Lima, March 9, 2025 – Universitario de Deportes secured a victory against Sport Boys in a match corresponding to the fifth round of the Apertura phase of the Peruvian First Division, played at the National Stadium in Lima. The final score was 2-0 in favor of Universitario, although Sport Boys significantly dominated possession.
The match was characterized by intensity and yellow cards. Sport Boys had more possession (67%) and more shots on target (4), but Universitario made better use of their opportunities. The goals came from Martín Pérez in the 16th minute and Edison Flores in the 35th minute. Sport Boys had a goal disallowed for handball in the 36th minute. Universitario, despite having less possession, generated more shots (15), although most went wide (9). The match ended with four yellow cards for Sport Boys and three for Universitario. Despite Sport Boys’ territorial dominance, Universitario’s effectiveness decided the match. The referee was Micke Palomino.
