Cerro Porteño Thrashes Monagas SC in Thrilling Libertadores Clash
Asuncion, Paraguay – In a thrilling match played at the Estadio La Nueva Olla in Asuncion, Cerro Porteño secured a convincing 3-1 victory over Monagas SC in the second round of the 2025 Copa Libertadores. The match, officiated by Brazil’s Flavio Rodrigues De Souza, was marked by the Paraguayan team’s dominance in possession (63%) and shots on goal (23 shots, 8 on target).
Monagas SC took an early lead in the 4th minute with a goal from Rodriguez, assisted by Henry. However, Cerro Porteño quickly responded and equalized in the 19th minute through a goal by Leon, assisted by Farina. Before halftime, Cerro Porteño took the lead with a goal from Morel (45′), also assisted by Farina. In the second half, Viera sealed the victory with a goal in the 51st minute, assisted by Perez.
Despite the loss, Monagas SC showed determination and created some scoring opportunities.
