Sanfrecce Hiroshima Edges out Shimizu S-Pulse in Hard-Fought Shizuoka Match
Sanfrecce Hiroshima secured a 1-0 victory over Shimizu S-Pulse at the IAI Stadium Nihondaira in Shizuoka on February 26th, 2025. The match, part of the J1 League’s third round, was officiated by Akihiko Ikeuchi and proved to be a closely contested affair. T. Shiotani’s goal in the 65th minute proved to be the difference-maker.
The game began with an own goal by H. Araki in the 12th minute, giving Hiroshima an early lead. However, Shimizu S-Pulse put up a strong fight. Hiroshima dominated possession (60%), registering 12 shots (2 on target) compared to Shimizu’s 8 shots (1 on target). Discipline was an issue for both sides, with Shimizu receiving one yellow card and Hiroshima accumulating three. Despite their superior possession and shot count, Hiroshima needed to wait until the second half to secure the win. The match was physical, with a total of 18 fouls committed.
