Guadalajara Chivas Rout Cibao FC at Estadio Akron
Zapopan, Mexico – Guadalajara Chivas cruised to a 3-0 victory over Cibao FC in the first leg of the 2025 CONCACAF Champions League Round of 16, played at Estadio Akron. The match, held on February 13th in Zapopan and officiated by Joseph Dickerson (USA), saw a clear dominance from the Mexican side.
Chivas controlled possession (68%), creating numerous scoring opportunities. Fernando Beltrán opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, assisted by Cristian Cowell. In the second half, Javier “Chicharito” Hernández extended the lead in the 55th minute with an assist from Yael Padilla. Finally, Alexis Vega sealed the victory in the 78th minute with an unassisted goal.
Cibao FC offered little resistance, managing only two shots throughout the entire match, none on target. The red card shown to Carlos Mancilla in the 62nd minute left the Dominican team with a man down, further complicating their situation. Cibao also received one yellow card. Chivas registered 21 shots (6 on target), 8 corner kicks, and one yellow card. The match was characterized by a clear disparity in play and Chivas’ superiority in all aspects.
