Liverpool and Newcastle deliver thrilling encounter at St. James’ Park
Newcastle upon Tyne, December 4, 2024 – St. James’ Park hosted a pulsating Premier League clash between Liverpool and Newcastle on Matchday 14. The game, refereed by Andy Madley, ended in a 3-4 victory for the Reds.
A tense first half saw Liverpool accumulate three yellow cards (Mac Allister, Quansah, and Gravenberch) before Alexander Isak, assisted by Bruno Guimarães, opened the scoring for the home side in the 35th minute. Liverpool responded with a goal from Curtis Jones in the 50th minute, assisted by Mohamed Salah.
The second half continued the intensity. Allan Saint-Maximin made it 2-1 for Newcastle in the 62nd minute, assisted by Isak, before Mohamed Salah scored a brace in the 68th and 83rd minutes, both assisted by Trent Alexander-Arnold. Liverpool saw a flurry of yellow cards in this period, with Alexander-Arnold and Darwin Núñez joining the list. However, Fabian Schar netted for Newcastle in injury time, making the final score a thrilling 3-4.
Despite the defeat, Newcastle showed great resilience, with 16 shots on goal, 6 of which were on target, and 41% possession. Liverpool dominated possession with 59% and also had 16 shots, converting 4 into goals. Both teams played aggressively, committing a total of 26 fouls.
