River Plate defeated Estudiantes de La Plata 2-1 in a thrilling match played at the Estadio Jorge Luis Hirschi in La Plata. The Millionarios started with a flurry of goals: at the 4th minute, Colidio opened the scoring with an assist from Meza, and at the 9th minute, Meza extended the lead with an assist from Colidio. Estudiantes, despite having more possession (57%), were hampered by a strong River defense and a disallowed goal for handball by Palacios. Ascacibar received a yellow card in the 35th minute. In the second half, Carrillo pulled one back for Estudiantes at the 60th minute with an assist from Meza. Carrillo had the chance to equalize from the penalty spot at the 66th minute, but missed. The final minutes were frantic, with a number of yellow cards shown to both teams. Ultimately, River Plate secured the victory despite Estudiantes’ territorial dominance.
