East Bengal Edges Out NorthEast United in Tense Encounter
Kolkata, November 29, 2024 – East Bengal secured a hard-fought victory over NorthEast United in a thrilling and fiery Indian Super League match. The game, played at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan Stadium and officiated by Raul Gupta, ended 1-0 in favor of the home side. Diamantakos scored the only goal of the game in the 23rd minute, assisted by Talal.
The match was marred by numerous cards. Muthu (NorthEast United) and Lalchungnunga (East Bengal) received yellow cards in the first half. The second half was even more eventful, with yellow cards shown to Oram, Bemammer (two, resulting in a red card), and Crespo (East Bengal). Rakip (East Bengal) and Lalchungnunga (who was also sent off for a second yellow) also received yellow cards in the closing stages.
Despite their numerical advantage in the latter stages, East Bengal had to withstand pressure from NorthEast United, who despite having 15 shots (only 1 on target), couldn’t find an equalizer. East Bengal controlled possession (53%) and registered 13 shots, 4 of them on target.
