Al Ahly Dominates Stade d’Abidjan in CAF Champions League Opener
Al Ahly secured a convincing 4-2 victory over Stade d’Abidjan in their CAF Champions League group stage opener at the Cairo International Stadium. The Egyptian giants controlled possession (63%) and outshot their opponents 17 to 10 (5 on target for Al Ahly, 2 for Stade d’Abidjan).
Al Ahly’s goals came in quick succession early in the match. Kahraba opened the scoring in the 14th minute, assisted by Afsha. Afsha then doubled the lead in the 21st minute, with an assist from T. Mohamed, before El Shahat made it 3-0 in the 26th minute, assisted by Kahraba. Kone pulled one back for Stade d’Abidjan in the 30th minute. Kahraba added his second in the 48th minute, assisted by K. Abdelfattah. Assale scored a late goal for Stade d’Abidjan in the 55th minute but it was too little, too late.
Despite the victory, Al Ahly received two yellow cards, while Stade d’Abidjan received one. The match, played in Cairo on November 26th, 2024, highlighted Al Ahly’s attacking prowess. Stade d’Abidjan, despite their efforts, struggled to match the home side’s dominance.
