AZ Alkmaar Stages Comeback Win Over Sparta Rotterdam in Tense Match
Rotterdam, November 24, 2024 – AZ Alkmaar secured a 2-1 victory over Sparta Rotterdam in a thrilling encounter at the Sparta-Stadion Het Kasteel. The match, part of the Eredivisie’s 13th round, was marked by tension and yellow cards.
Sparta Rotterdam took the lead through T. Lauritsen’s goal in the 16th minute, assisted by J. Kitolano. Despite enjoying more possession (51%), Sparta couldn’t hold onto their advantage. P. Koopmeiners equalized for AZ Alkmaar in the 9th minute. The second half was even more fiercely contested, with three yellow cards shown to AZ Alkmaar and two to Sparta Rotterdam in the closing stages. S. Mijnans ultimately scored the winning goal for AZ Alkmaar in the 74th minute. Despite the disparity in shots on target (2-1 in favor of Sparta), AZ Alkmaar proved more clinical. Referee Jannick van der Laan from the Netherlands had a busy afternoon managing numerous fouls.
