Chile defeated Venezuela in a thrilling match at the Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos in Santiago, Chile. The game, part of the 2026 World Cup South American Qualifiers group stage, ended with a 4-2 victory for the home side. Argentine referee Facundo Tello officiated the encounter.
The first half was a back-and-forth affair. Venezuela took the lead at the 13th minute with a goal from Josef Martínez, assisted by Yeferson Soteldo. Chile quickly responded, equalizing at the 20th minute thanks to a goal by Eduardo Vargas, assisted by L. Cepeda. Venezuela regained the lead at the 22nd minute with a goal from R. Ramirez. The first half concluded with yellow cards for Vidal (Chile) and Aramburu (Venezuela).
In the second half, Chile secured their victory with another goal from L. Cepeda at the 47th minute. Despite late yellow cards for Angel and Martinez for Venezuela, the home team held firm, although a goal by L. Cabral was disallowed for offside. Chile dominated possession (67%), but Venezuela showed offensive effectiveness, registering 6 shots (3 on target), compared to Chile’s 7 shots (5 on target).
