Estoril thrash Arouca in a thrilling match
Estoril Praia achieved a resounding 5-1 victory over Arouca in the 9th round of the Portuguese Primeira Liga. The match, played at the Estádio António Coimbra da Mota, was a clear example of the local team’s effectiveness, as they were able to capitalize on their opportunities to seal the game.
Arouca started better and took the lead in the 24th minute with a goal from Hélder Araújo, assisted by Iván Rodrigues. However, Estoril reacted quickly and equalized in the 30th minute thanks to a goal from André Marques, with an assist from Pedro Amaral.
In the second half, Estoril deployed an unstoppable offensive game. Wilton Pina (minute 42), Pedro Álvaro (minute 64) and João Holsgrove (minute 90) scored to extend the locals’ lead. Holsgrove also provided an assist on Estoril’s final goal.
Arouca tried to close the gap with a penalty in the 80th minute, but Jason missed his shot.
Estoril dominated possession of the ball with 34% compared to 66% for Arouca. However, the locals were more effective in attack with 12 shots (5 on target), while Arouca managed 13 shots (4 on target).
The match ended with a resounding 5-1 win for Estoril, who take three important points in their fight for qualification.
