Ajax defeats Qarabag in a match full of emotions
Ajax defeated Qarabag 3-0 in an exciting match played at the Tofiq Bəhramov adına Respublika stadionu in Baku, Azerbaijan. The match was marked by the expulsion of two Qarabag players and the effectiveness of the Dutch attack.
The first goal came in the 36th minute through Kenneth Taylor, who took advantage of a pass from Wout Weghorst to open the scoring. In the second half, Ajax continued to press and managed to increase their lead in the 74th minute with a penalty converted by Weghorst. Akpom sealed the victory in the 77th minute after an assist from Godts.
Qarabag was hurt by the expulsions of J. Romao in the 15th minute and E. Cafarquliyev in the 79th minute. Both players received red cards for serious foul play. The Azerbaijani team also received a total of 6 yellow cards, while Ajax only saw 2.
Despite the difference on the scoreboard, Qarabag had a good ball possession, reaching 43% of possession. However, Ajax was much more effective in attack, making 14 shots, 10 of them on target, while Qarabag only managed 2 shots on target.
The victory of Ajax leaves the Dutch team in a good position to advance in the group stage of the UEFA Europa League.
