Antwerp routs Cercle Brugge in an intense match
Antwerp dominated Cercle Brugge with a convincing 4-0 victory in a Jupiler Pro League match played at the Bosuilstadion in Deurne, Belgium.
The match started at a fast pace, with Antwerp taking the lead in the 18th minute thanks to a goal by G. Kerk. Just four minutes later, T. Chery doubled the Antwerp lead, benefiting from an assist by V. Janssen.
Cercle Brugge attempted to respond, but yellow cards received by H. van der Bruggen (16′), S. Miangue (48′), and C. Ravych (75′) hampered their efforts.
In the second half, Antwerp maintained control and sealed the victory with two more goals. J. Ondrejka scored the third in the 83rd minute, again assisted by V. Janssen, and closed the scoring in the 90th minute with a shot on goal.
Despite the loss, Cercle Brugge had more possession of the ball (46%) and took more shots (16) than Antwerp (54% and 14 shots respectively). However, Antwerp’s effectiveness in converting their chances, coupled with Cercle Brugge’s lack of precision, was crucial to the victory.
Antwerp earned three important points that place them in the upper part of the standings, while Cercle Brugge will have to analyze their mistakes to recover lost ground.
