Celta Vigo suffers double red card and falls to defeat against Las Palmas
Celta Vigo suffered a resounding defeat against Las Palmas in the ninth round of La Liga, after a match marked by the expulsions of Iago Aspas and Iñigo Moriba in the second half.
The match began with Celta Vigo dominating possession in the opening minutes. In the 17th minute, Williot Swedberg had a goal disallowed for offside, which was a sign of the visiting team’s intentions. However, the opening goal came in the 28th minute from Iago Aspas, assisted by Óscar Mingueza.
Celta’s joy was short-lived due to the numerous yellow cards they began to receive. Franco Beltrán in the 32nd minute, Jesús Manquillo in the 42nd and finally, a yellow card for Jonathan Silva in the 45th minute on behalf of Las Palmas.
The second half was a nightmare for Celta. Iñigo Moriba received two consecutive yellow cards in the 54th minute, the second for a tough tackle, and was sent off. Aspas, in an act of frustration, repeated Moriba’s action, receiving two yellows in the 57th minute and also seeing the red card.
With two players down, Celta was unable to compete and Las Palmas took advantage of the numerical advantage to control the match. Although the Galician side sought a draw, the double expulsion ended up tipping the scales in favor of the home team.
