FC Midtjylland defeats Maccabi Tel Aviv in a low-scoring affair
FC Midtjylland secured a 2-0 victory over Maccabi Tel Aviv in the second round of the UEFA Europa League group stage. The game, played at the Stadion Partizana in Belgrade, was a low-scoring affair, but the Danish side capitalized on the opportunities that came their way.
The only goal of the first half came in the 39th minute, when Franculino found the back of the net after a pass from A. Simsir. The second half saw a bit more action, but Maccabi Tel Aviv failed to seriously threaten the opposition goal. In the 89th minute, E. Chilufya doubled the lead for FC Midtjylland after a pass from K. Askildsen.
Maccabi Tel Aviv had more possession (60%), but created fewer chances than their opponents (20 shots, 4 on target). FC Midtjylland, on the other hand, were more efficient, with 10 shots and 7 of them on target.
