Fleetwood Town defeats Cheltenham in a thrilling encounter
Fleetwood Town overcame Cheltenham 2-0 in an exciting match at the EV Charger Points Stadium. The game was marked by the visitors’ effectiveness and the yellow cards dished out throughout the game.
The first goal arrived in the 5th minute thanks to a strike from M. Virtue-Thick, assisted by R. Coughlan. Fleetwood Town’s joy was somewhat dampened by a series of yellow cards, the first for D. Mayor in the 31st minute and another for E. Bonds three minutes later.
Cheltenham were not far behind in terms of yellow cards, as S. Bennett received his in the 28th minute and L. Payne in the 50th.
In the 51st minute, M. Virtue-Thick scored again, this time assisted by E. Bonds, to extend Fleetwood Town’s lead.
The match was marked by ball possession, which favoured Cheltenham with 53%, but Fleetwood Town were more effective in attack, with 14 shots on goal compared to just 5 from the home side.
Overall, Fleetwood Town demonstrated their superiority in attack and claimed a deserved victory.
