Groningen suffers a defeat against Heerenveen in a game with red cards
Heerenveen defeated Groningen in a vibrant and tense match on the sixth matchday of the Eredivisie. The game, played at the Abe Lenstra Stadion in Heerenveen, ended with a score of 3-1 in favor of the home team.
The match started at a frantic pace. Groningen opened the scoring in the 9th minute thanks to a goal by L. Valente, assisted by T. van Bergen. However, the visitors’ joy was short-lived. Just three minutes later, J. Trenskow equalized for Heerenveen.
In the second half, Groningen suffered a blow in the 64th minute when M. Peersman was sent off with a straight red card. From that moment on, Heerenveen dominated the game and found the winning goal in the 69th minute through I. Nicolaescu, assisted by E. van Ee.
The tension rose again in the 82nd minute when B. Willumsson also saw red for Groningen. Heerenveen took advantage of the numerical superiority and sealed the match in the 83rd minute with a goal by I. Nicolaescu.
The game was marked by the aggression of both teams, which resulted in a total of 19 fouls, three yellow cards for Groningen and one for Heerenveen, in addition to the two red cards.
Heerenveen moved to the top of the table with 16 points, while Groningen was relegated to the bottom of the table with 7 points.
