Benfica thrashes Santa Clara in a thrilling match
Benfica convincingly beat Santa Clara 5-1 in a match on the fifth round of the Portuguese Primeira Liga, played at the Estádio da Luz in Lisbon.
The home side dominated the match from the start, opening the scoring in the 1st minute with a goal from Vinicius Lopes, assisted by S. Lima. However, Benfica reacted quickly and equalized in the 27th minute with a goal from K. Akturkoglu, assisted by O. Kokcu.
Benfica took the lead in the 34th minute thanks to a goal from Florentino, assisted by N. Otamendi, and sealed the match in the 47th minute with a goal from A. Silva, again assisted by O. Kokcu.
Santa Clara tried to react, but it was Benfica who continued their dominance, scoring two more goals in the second half. A. Di Maria, assisted by A. Bah, scored the fourth goal in the 58th minute, and the fifth came in the 90th minute, with a goal from Serginho into his own net.
Benfica dominated possession (60%) and had more chances to score (15 shots, 8 on target), while Santa Clara stayed at 40% possession and 7 shots, 2 on target.
Despite the loss, Santa Clara had moments of good play and did not give up without a fight.
