North Macedonia defeats Armenia in a game with lots of action
Skopje, North Macedonia – North Macedonia defeated Armenia 2-0 in a UEFA Nations League match played at the Toše Proeski Arena in Skopje. The match was marked by the early red card for Goran Zajkov and by a series of substitutions in both teams.
In the first half, Zajkov saw two yellow cards in the 45th minute and was sent off. Earlier, Elmas had been booked in the 39th minute. In the second half, North Macedonia found the back of the net with a goal from Eljif Elmas in the 70th minute and another from Bojan Miovski in the 79th minute.
Armenia tried to react but failed to convert their chances. In the second half, they received yellow cards for Tiknizyan in the 55th minute, Zelarayan in the 70th minute and N. Serafimov in the 86th minute.
The game was a back-and-forth affair, with both teams fighting for control of the match. North Macedonia finished with 42% possession, while Armenia had 58%. The Macedonians took 13 shots (5 on target, 6 off target) compared to Armenia’s 13 (6 on target, 2 off target). North Macedonia also had more corners (4) than Armenia (3), but committed more fouls (8 to 10).
Despite the early red card, North Macedonia managed to impose themselves on the scoreboard and secure an important victory on their way to the next stage of the Nations League.
