France U23 beats Argentina U23 in a tense match with many yellow cards
Bordeaux, France – France U23 defeated Argentina U23 by 1-0 in a quarter-final match of the Men’s Olympic Games, played at the Stade Matmut-Atlantique in Bordeaux. The match was marked by a high number of yellow cards and a controversial VAR decision.
France started with more intensity and managed to open the scoring in the 5th minute with a goal from Jean-Philippe Mateta, assisted by Michael Olise. Argentina tried to react but found a very solid French defense and an inspired goalkeeper.
The match became very physical, which resulted in a shower of yellow cards. Argentina received four cautions, while France collected five.
In the 84th minute, France had the chance to extend their lead, but VAR disallowed a goal from Olise for a previous foul.
