Ipswich Dominates Possession but Fails to Convert Against Resilient Wrexham
Ipswich, England – In a match held at Portman Road, Ipswich Town failed to convert their superior possession and goalscoring opportunities against a combative Wrexham side. The match, corresponding to matchday 16 of the 2025 Championship, ended with a result that did not reflect the clear difference in statistics between the two teams.
Ipswich dominated the ball with 62% possession and generated a total of 17 shots, 7 of which were on target, however, a lack of effectiveness and Wrexham’s solid defense prevented the advantage from translating into goals. Wrexham, for their part, opted for a more defensive game, with only 2 shots, none of them on target, and prioritized maintaining order at the back.
The match was also characterized by a high number of fouls, 16 for Wrexham and 8 for Ipswich, which resulted in several yellow cards. For Wrexham, G. Thomason (37th minute), B. Sheaf (48th minute) and L. O’Brien (87th minute) were booked. Ipswich received yellow cards for C. Kipre (51st minute) and A. Matusiwa (64th minute). The referee for the match, Dean Whitestone, had work to do to maintain control of the game.
In the end, Wrexham’s defensive solidity and the ineffectiveness of Ipswich’s attack sealed a match where the statistics did not tell the whole story.
