Internacional Defeats Ceará in Chaotic Fortaleza Match
Fortaleza, Brazil – In a highly emotional and card-filled match, Internacional prevailed over Ceará at the Estádio Governador Plácido Castelo in a Brazilian Serie A fixture. Referee Rodrigo Jose Pereira de Lima had a busy night, brandishing a total of six cards, three of which were red.
Ceará suffered an early blow, with Diego receiving a yellow card in the first minute and Vina being sent off in the 4th minute. Despite playing with ten men for most of the match, Ceará managed to hold on until the 77th minute, when Internacional’s Vitinho, assisted by G. Mercado, broke the deadlock.
The match took an unexpected turn when Ceará’s Ricardo Mathias scored an own goal in the 80th minute, leveling the score. However, Internacional regained the lead in the 87th minute thanks to a goal by Ricardo Mathias, this time in the correct net and assisted by Alan Patrick. The tension continued until the end, with Bruno Tabata (Internacional) being sent off in the 79th minute and J. Carbonero (Internacional) following suit in the 89th.
Internacional dominated possession with 71% compared to Ceará’s 29% and also outshot their opponent in total shots (16 to 10) and shots on target (6 to 3). Ceará, despite their numerical disadvantage, fought with determination, but it was not enough to counter Internacional’s offensive power. The match was part of the 34th round of the 2025 season of the Brazilian Serie A.
