Portugal Unleashes Offensive Power in Resounding Victory Over Armenia
Porto, Portugal – In a match played at the Estádio do Dragão, Portugal demonstrated their superiority with a crushing victory over Armenia. The match, corresponding to the group stage of the World Cup Qualifiers, ended with a score of 9 to 1 in favor of the home side.
Portugal dominated possession with 76%, translating it into a constant siege on the Armenian goal. R. Veiga opened the scoring early, in the 7th minute, starting a cascade of goals. Armenia responded momentarily with a goal by E. Spertsyan in the 18th minute, but the joy was short-lived.
G. Ramos, J. Neves (on three occasions) and B. Fernandes (also on three occasions, two from penalties) extended Portugal’s lead before halftime and throughout the second half, showing relentless effectiveness in attack. J. Neves completed his hat-trick in the 81st minute. Young F. Conceicao sealed the victory with a goal in the 90th minute.
Armenia, with only 24% possession, struggled to contain the Portuguese offensive, but their efforts proved insufficient. Their goalkeeper was subjected to a barrage of shots, with a total of 33 shots from Portugal, of which 14 were on target.
Bosnian referee Irfan Peljto cautioned S. Muradyan for Armenia. The match solidified Portugal as a strong contender in the qualifying phase.
