Germany Overcomes Luxembourg in Card-Filled Match
Luxembourg, November 14, 2025 – Germany defeated Luxembourg at the Stade de Luxembourg in a World Cup Qualification Europe group stage match that was more contested than the final score suggests. The match, refereed by England’s John Brooks, was marked by a high number of cautions, reflecting the intensity with which both teams played.
Germany enjoyed clear ball possession, controlling 65% of the time, and generated a greater number of scoring opportunities (14 total shots, with 7 on target). However, Luxembourg remained compact in defense, making the German offensive task difficult. The score was opened in the 49th minute with a goal from N. Woltemade, following an assist by L. Sane. The German lead was extended in the 69th minute with a second goal by Woltemade, this time assisted by R. Baku.
Luxembourg, despite their lower possession (35%), attempted to find the opponent’s goal on 7 occasions, although only one of those shots managed to go between the three posts. The home team committed a total of 10 fouls, which resulted in three yellow cards for their players, while Germany also received two cautions.
The match, belonging to round 9 of the group stage, leaves Germany in a favorable position on their way to qualifying for the World Cup.
