Cairo Clash Ends in Dramatic Draw: Al Ahly Dominates Possession but Only Manages a Late Equalizer Against Al Masry
The Borg El Arab Stadium in Cairo hosted a tense and hard-fought match between Al Ahly and Al Masry, in the 13th round of the Egyptian Premier League. Al Ahly dominated the game with 65% possession and a barrage of 21 shots, 6 of which were on target. However, Al Masry’s resolute defense, although yielding to the pressure, managed to keep their goal safe for most of the match.
The game was characterized by high intensity, reflected in the numerous fouls committed by both teams (8 by Al Ahly and 11 by Al Masry) and the yellow cards shown (2 for Al Ahly and 4 for Al Masry). Al Ahly’s frustration grew as time ticked away and the goal remained elusive.
Controversy erupted in the 90th minute when the referee awarded a penalty to Al Ahly. Zizo, responsible for taking it, missed the shot but managed to score on the rebound, giving his team the equalizer. Despite the dominance and opportunities created, Al Ahly had to settle for a point at home against a combative Al Masry. The match concluded with a score that reflects Al Masry’s defensive effectiveness and Al Ahly’s difficulty in converting their on-field superiority.
