Guimarães Mounts Comeback at Home Against Tense Santa Clara
Guimarães, Portugal – In a hard-fought match at the Estádio Dom Afonso Henriques, Guimarães secured an important victory against Santa Clara in a game filled with tension and cards. The match, part of the eighth round of the 2025 Primeira Liga, was marked by a high number of fouls and cautions, reflecting the intensity with which both teams played.
Santa Clara took an early lead in the 6th minute with a goal from Vinicius Lopes, assisted by Wendell. However, the initial joy was marred by a series of yellow cards, five in total, which affected the team’s rhythm. Guimarães, on the other hand, did not back down and, despite also accumulating yellow cards, maintained ball possession at 53% and created a greater number of goal opportunities.
The equalizer came in the 73rd minute thanks to A. Ndoye, assisted by Samu. The comeback was completed just five minutes later, in the 78th minute, with a goal from Samu himself. The match, officiated by Joao Antonio Ferreira Goncalves, ended with a victory for Guimarães, reflecting their greater offensive insistence during the second half. While Santa Clara showed danger early on, the constant pressure and greater effectiveness of Guimarães in the second half ultimately tipped the scales in their favor.
