Upset in Yerevan: FC Noah Defeats a Depleted Rijeka in the Conference League
Yerevan, October 2nd, 2025 – In a match held at the Vazgen Sargsyan Republican Stadium, FC Noah surprised HNK Rijeka on the first matchday of the UEFA Europa Conference League group stage. The game, refereed by Bulgarian Radoslav Gidzhenov, was marked by high tension and the numerical superiority of the home team for much of the encounter.
FC Noah demonstrated a clear dominance of the ball with 59% possession, translating into a greater offensive initiative. Despite generating a total of 15 shots, their aim wasn’t their best ally, as only 3 of them found the target.
N. Mulahusejnovic’s goal in the 6th minute, assisted by T. Oshima, gave FC Noah an early lead. The initial goal boosted the Armenian team, who knew how to take advantage of N. Jankovic’s expulsion from HNK Rijeka in the 30th minute. From that moment on, Rijeka was forced to retreat and play defensively.
Despite having less possession (41%), HNK Rijeka tried to generate danger, but their offense was contained by the FC Noah defense. Rijeka could only execute 2 shots, with one on target, before being subjected to the dominance of the home team.
The match was also characterized by a high number of fouls, 14 by FC Noah and 15 by HNK Rijeka. The intensity of the game resulted in several cards, including a red for Jankovic and yellows for L. Menalo, G. Sangare, H. Ferreira, A. Husic, and D. Petrovic.
Ultimately, FC Noah took the victory at home, adding three important points on their way through the Conference League.
