Boca Juniors Struggles to Hold Off Persistent Central Córdoba
Buenos Aires, Argentina – In a hard-fought match at the Estadio Alberto José Armando, Boca Juniors managed a narrow victory against Central Córdoba de Santiago del Estero in a match corresponding to the ninth matchday of the Liga Profesional Argentina.
Boca dominated possession with 63%, generating a total of 24 shots, 8 of which were on target. The first goal came in the 41st minute, scored by R. Battaglia, opening the scoring for the home side. In the second half, M. Merentiel extended the lead in the 56th minute. However, Central Córdoba reacted strongly.
J. I. Florentin Bobadilla reduced the deficit for the visitors in the 62nd minute, following an assist from J. Galvan, injecting encouragement into the Santiago team. Central Córdoba’s pressure continued, and in the 83rd minute, I. Gomez equalized the score. The match became tense, with several yellow cards shown in the final minutes, four for Central Córdoba (M. Godoy in the 30′, F. Alfonso in the 85′, A. Aguerre in the 88′ and G. Veron in the 90′) and one for Boca (L. Paredes in the 79′ and L. Di Lollo in the 90′).
Despite the dominance in possession and the higher number of shots, Boca Juniors struggled to contain the Central Córdoba offensive, which showed great fighting spirit until the last minute. The referee, Yael Falcon Perez, had an intense job due to the high number of fouls committed by the visiting team (22). Finally, Boca Juniors took the victory, but with a bittersweet taste in the face of the resistance shown by their rival.
