FC Tokyo Secures Victory in Tense Derby Against Tokyo Verdy
Chōfu, Japan – In a hard-fought match at the Ajinomoto Stadium, FC Tokyo managed to narrowly defeat Tokyo Verdy in a game filled with intensity and cards. Under the watchful eye of referee Yudai Yamamoto, the match, corresponding to matchday 29 of the 2025 J1 League season, kept fans on the edge of their seats.
The first half passed without goals, but not without incidents. The tension was palpable, reflected in the yellow cards shown to M. Morishige and Marcelo Ryan, both FC Tokyo players, in the 40th and 43rd minutes respectively.
The only goal of the match came in the 60th minute, when M. Nagakura, assisted by Marcelo Ryan, managed to breach the Tokyo Verdy goal, unleashing euphoria among the home fans.
Although the match remained evenly matched in terms of possession (50% for each team), Tokyo Verdy attempted to overturn the score with 13 shots, although only two of them managed to go on target, while FC Tokyo executed 11 shots, three of which were on target. The match was characterized by a high number of fouls, 15 committed by FC Tokyo and 17 by Tokyo Verdy. In the 86th minute, R. Hirakawa of Tokyo Verdy also saw the yellow card, adding to the three cautions received by FC Tokyo. M. Nagakura received a caution in added time. Despite the final attempts by both teams, the score remained unchanged, consolidating FC Tokyo’s victory in this exciting derby.
