Goalless Draw in Cusco After Controversial Offside Call
Cusco, Peru – Cusco and Cienciano played to a 0-0 draw in a match held at the Estadio Inca Garcilaso de la Vega, as part of the 15th round of the Apertura in the Peruvian Primera División. Referee Jordi Espinoza officiated the game.
The match was characterized by intensity and midfield battles. Cienciano, with 48% possession, tried to take the initiative with 19 shots, 8 of which were on target. However, the Cusco defense proved solid and managed to contain their attacks. Cusco, with 52% possession, generated 14 scoring opportunities, although only 4 found the opponent’s goal.
Controversy arose in the 40th minute when a goal by M. Ruidias for Cusco was disallowed by VAR, after determining he was in an offside position, sparking frustration among the home fans.
The match was also marked by fouls, with 11 committed by Cienciano and 4 by Cusco. The referee booked A. Gomez and A. Ascues for Cienciano, while A. Ampuero and J. Aquino received yellow cards for Cusco. Despite the intensity, neither team suffered any expulsions. Ultimately, the score remained unchanged, and both teams shared the points.
